Victor and Farmington, NY — The Greater Rochester Spina Bifida Association, a Rochester-based nonprofit that provides support to individuals with Spina Bifida and their families, is celebrating 40 years in 2012. In an effort to continue providing the programs and services, the organization will be collecting cell phones, PDAs and inkjet printer cartridges to be recycled between April 1 and July 31.
When recycled, the GRSBA will receive a donation for each item collected.
In America, 10 million cell phones are retired each month. Just one cell phone can contain eight toxic substances including lead, mercury and arsenic. One cell phone is capable of contaminating 35,000 gallons of ground water. This is enough water to sustain 153 people for one year.
In Victor, drop off donations at Canandaigua National Bank, Main Street, Victor.
To donate, call (585) 944-8866 or email GRSBA.NY@gmail.com.
