Banks NEVER Ask That!

Every day, thousands of people fall victim to fraudulent emails, texts and calls from scammers pretending to be their bank. This Cyber Security Awareness Month the Canandaigua National Bank & Trust Information Security Department wants to remind you about the types of information that banks will NEVER ask for.

Your bank will only ask for confidential information to verify your identity when you call their Customer Service number.

Always call the number on your card rather than a number provided in a text message or email.

Your bank will never call you to verify your account number. Hang up, and call the number on the back of your card.


Your bank will NEVER ask you via text, email or incoming phone call for:

  • Your Account Number
  • Your Username or Password
  • Your Social Security Number
